10/3/2023 0 Comments Xpadder guild wars 2![]() ![]() Of course this might not be for everyone, and for every class. I can perform attacks, move, dodge and do special moves (Functions-keys are assigned to the D-pad) without fumbling around over my keyboard looking for the correct button. As for camera control, and this its best part, there is no need to hold down a button at all – just move it like you would on a normal third-person game, using the right joystick!Īnd this works – I have been playing my Warrior with the Xbox 360 controller for the past 3 days and I am finding the game much more enjoyable because I am no longer in pain, and using my abilities doesn’t require me to look down on my keyboard. ![]() Even target selecting can be done by holding the right bumper. The left trigger unlocks the mouse cursor so you can move it around the screen with the right joystick, which should be useful for selecting dialogue options (press and hold the right trigger to register as a click in this case) and spell targeting. You can access the map by pressing the select button, and interact with items and talk with people using the right trigger. Buttons 4-5 are assigned to the left and right bumpers respectively, while the 6 button is assigned to the left joystick-click. The 1-3 and 7-9 action-bar buttons are assigned to the X, Y and B face buttons – to activate the former, you need to just press once to activate the latter, you will need to hold the face button for a second. So how is the controller mapped to the control scheme of the game? It’s quite ingenious what Tod has done actually, and it almost makes the game run and feel like a third-person action game like Fable. To setup the controller profile, all you need to do is install Pinnacle Game Profiler (it’s free), and then simply install Tod’s profile, and play the game using Pinnacle itself (enable advanced mouse smoothing). A quick Google search led me to a forum thread on Pinnacle Game Profiler, where a user called toddmd2 (let’s call him Tod) had meticulously built a controller profile encompassing ALL of the functions required to play the game, except impossible things like inventory management (although you can still do it but it will be time consuming). Fortunately, the Internet is a large place filled with people with like-minded sensibility. Now obsessed with finding a perfect solution, I scrounged the Internet to see if there was something better out there. It was far from perfect, but I loved how it made the game all the more playable for me. ![]() It was a worth a shot though, so I tried to build my own custom profile with Xpadder, a controller mapping software, and setup a rudimentary control scheme that had all the action-bar buttons mapped on the controller’s face buttons and triggers, with the movement assigned to the joystick. The most obvious alternative was using an Xbox 360 controller but I couldn’t wrap my head around how I was going to map all of the game’s functions on a 10-button joypad. So, ever since I started playing Guild Wars 2 I have been looking at other means to play the game than with the keyboard and mouse. ![]()
